About "Faces of the Future"
The Youth Committee, Faces of the Future was established by 38th District State Representative Al Riley to develop an interest in the legislative process in high school students. It is his hope that, by serving as committee members, students will understand how important their voices are in helping to change their communities and the world. During sessions with the students, State Representative Riley discusses issues that are important on all levels of government, from local topics to world issues. Students also have the opportunity to meet other legislative and political figures in the state and in their communities. They engage in experiences which will facilitate the development of leadership, speaking, and presentation skills. In addition, the information presented will be useful for development of career goals and future decision making. Some topics explored are:
- Government Issues and Operations
- World Government Organizations
- Strategic Planning
- Personal Management Skills
By working as a team, youth committee members identify issues currently facing high school aged youth and possible resolutions for those issues.
The youth committee will “be in session” for an entire year with meetings on Saturdays. The 2007 - 2008 Session began in June, 2007 and ended in the spring of 2008, at the conclusion of the academic school year. In essence, the students served for a year as one of State Representative Al Riley’s
Youth Committee members.
